Details
Our rope lube is a silky blend of pure camellia and jojoba oils that helps to condition and maintain your jute ropes for shibari. This blend keeps the rope hydrated, eliminating the risk of fibres breaking or shedding and making your rope last longer.

Both camellia and jojoba oil are commonly found in massage oils due to their similarity to our skin's sebum, giving your rope a smooth yet supple feel to the touch.

We mix jojoba oil, a liquid-wax, with the camellia oil to prevent it from evaporating. Our rope lube is 100% vegan, odourless and has a faint amber hue. Get a 250ml bottle and use it to reduce friction on hands and prevent fragile jute fibres from shedding.

Care & storage
FAQs

How long does your rope lube keep?

Jojoba is technically a liquid wax rather than an oil, which makes it exceptionally resistant to going rancid — it keeps for years. Camellia oil is similarly long-lasting. Stored with the lid on, away from heat and direct sunlight, a bottle will comfortably outlast several rounds of rope treatment — most people run out long before it spoils.

Is your rope lube safe on skin? What's in it?

Our Rope Lube is a blend of camellia and jojoba oils — the two classic rope conditioning oils. Both are cosmetic-grade carrier oils, the same grade used in skincare and massage products, chosen precisely because treated rope spends its life against skin. They're also naturally odourless, so your ropes won't pick up any scent from treatment.

What's the difference between the Rope Lube and the Rope Goo?

They're a team. The Rope Lube is made of a blend of camellia and jojoba oils — it penetrates the fibres and restores the suppleness jute loses over time. The Rope Goo is a beeswax-based paste mixed with camellia oil, sealing the oil in so treatments last longer and giving the rope a smooth, conditioned finish. Oil first for nourishment, paste after for protection.

How often should I treat my ropes?

There's no fixed schedule — the rope tells you. When jute starts feeling dry, stiff, or brittle rather than smooth and lively, it's time. For regularly used rope that might mean every few months; occasionally used rope needs it less often. Skin contact, climate, and storage all play a part.

Strong, practical & pretty

I bought some pre treated rope as at the moment and too busy to treat new ropes. I found these very nice quality but naturally they need a little breaking in as quite rigid to begin with. That said they will soften nicely and the quality is robust and I think if used for suspensions you’d be confident they are more than up to it. Used for ground play, great…and the quality means nice ties and knot shapes which don’t pull too tight. Nice product and not a crazy price.

This Lube is really nice and easy to apply, my chunk of rope is now looking good and not shredding bits all over the place.

My favorite rope

I’ve tried a couple of different kinds of jute now, and Anatomie has be coming back every time. This rope is soft, strong, and a beautiful golden color. The lay is a little tighter than ogawa, which is perfect for me! I’ve been using this rope since the start of my rope journey a few years ago and nothing else really compares.

Hey, could you please tell me about how I "treat" the jute ropes with the oil? Do I just put some oil onto a microfibre cloth and wipe it along the rope? Is there anything I need to know?

Anatomie Rope Shop

Yes you can put the oil on a cloth and apply it to the ropes with that. Try to get an even application, but don't worry too much if you don't as it will gradually spread out. Basically in more humid climates you generally want slightly more oil, in climates that tend to be more dry less oil is often preferable. But it's up to your personal choice.

What are the directions for Rope Lube?

Anatomie Rope Shop

You can either use your hands or a cloth to apply the oil to your ropes. Most people prefer to use a cloth - simply put some oil on the cloth then grip the rope with the cloth while pulling it thourgh.
